The Monroe Institute

Faber, Virginia · Est. 1974

About

Founded by Robert Monroe, whose 1971 book Journeys Out of the Body documented his systematic out-of-body experiences. The Institute developed Hemi-Sync binaural beat audio technology to induce altered states reproducibly. Gained national security relevance through the CIA's Gateway Process program (declassified 1983), which used Monroe's techniques for remote viewing training. Several AATIP-adjacent figures including Hal Puthoff have professional overlap with Monroe's research lineage via SRI's consciousness studies. The Institute continues residential training programs and research into binaural audio effects on consciousness.
