Summary
The Advanced Aerospace Weapon System Applications Program was a $22 million DIA contract awarded to Bigelow Aerospace Advanced Space Studies (BAASS) in 2008, secured through the advocacy of Senator Harry Reid. Directed by DIA program manager James Lacatski, AAWSAP studied UAP as potential adversarial aerospace threats and produced 38 Defense Intelligence Reference Documents (DIRDs) on advanced physics and propulsion. It is often conflated with AATIP but was the broader parent program; AATIP operated as a subset focused specifically on UAP reporting and investigation.
Significance
AAWSAP is the most extensively funded classified UAP program confirmed in the public record. Its 38 DIRD technical reports - covering topics from warp drives to metamaterials - were partially released through FOIA and formed the technical foundation of the modern UAP disclosure push. The program's connection to Skinwalker Ranch through BAASS also brought paranormal phenomena within the scope of a classified intelligence program for the first time.

Limitations & Caveats
- !The 38 DIRDs remain partially classified; only a subset has been released through FOIA.
- !The relationship between AAWSAP and AATIP is disputed - some accounts treat them as distinct programs, others as overlapping.
- !BAASS field operations at Skinwalker Ranch have not been independently verified.
- !Lacatski's 'Skinwalkers at the Pentagon' account has not been independently corroborated.
