Abstract

A process for preparing an oxidation resistant black glass having the empirical formula SiCx Oy, wherein 0<x≦2.0 and 0<y≦2.2. The process comprises reacting cyclosiloxane monomers to effect the bonding of one vinyl carbon atom to a silicon, curing the product at not greater than 250° C., and pyrolyzing at about 800°-1400° C. in an atmosphere containing a sufficient amount of oxygen to reduce the carbon content of the black glass to a desired level.
