Summary
Retired U.S. Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI) special agent and the most consequential documented government disinformation operative in UAP research history. Doty was the primary AFOSI agent responsible for a sustained psychological operation against defense contractor Paul Bennewitz (1980-1988) that fed fabricated UAP evidence to Bennewitz - and, through him, to the broader research community - ultimately contributing to Bennewitz's mental breakdown. Doty also showed journalist Linda Moulton Howe a fabricated classified presidential briefing document on extraterrestrial intelligence at Kirtland AFB in 1983, and supplied doctored documents to researcher Bill Moore. He has publicly acknowledged these activities post-retirement. His significance is not as a reliable source but as evidence that the deliberate contamination of the UAP evidentiary record by U.S. intelligence agencies is a documented historical fact.
