Summary
A first-hand field investigation account written by a currently serving senior U.S. intelligence official describing events at a sensitive Western U.S. military weapons testing range in late 2025. The official — a helicopter passenger with a colleague and two pilots — departed a Joint Operations Center to investigate 'loud thuds' heard in the mountains and multi-night sightings of glowing orbs. During the mission, one object approached within 10 feet of the helicopter before speeding away. A separate object appeared at low altitude moving at high speed and split into two pieces, each accelerating in different directions. Companion infrared imagery released separately on war.gov on May 8, 2026. This is the first ODNI document in the PURSUE numbering system.
Significance
ODNI-UAP-D001 is the most recent event in the entire PURSUE corpus — late 2025, from a currently serving senior intelligence official. It describes an active UAP investigation mission at a live weapons testing range. The 10-foot approach of an object to a manned helicopter and then the fission behavior of a separate object (splitting into two and accelerating in different directions) are the most kinematically anomalous behaviors described in any PURSUE document to date. The USPER designation protects the author's identity, but their current service status means this account describes something that is happening now, not a Cold War historical incident.
