Summary
A formal Range Fouler Debrief documenting an unidentified aerial object that intruded into a restricted U.S. military training exercise airspace in Japan in 2023. Released as DOW-UAP-D42 via PURSUE Release 1 on May 8, 2026. DOW-UAP-D42 is the only Range Fouler Debrief in the PURSUE corpus from the INDOPACOM Pacific theater — all other four range fouler debriefs (D38, D44, D56, D58) are from the CENTCOM Middle East theater. Japan's role as the primary U.S. military hub in the Pacific, with the world's densest concentration of U.S. overseas bases, makes this range fouler debrief geopolitically significant.
Significance
DOW-UAP-D42 extends the Range Fouler Debrief category beyond the CENTCOM theater into INDOPACOM. As the only Japan-based range fouler in the PURSUE corpus, it establishes that UAP intrusions into U.S. military training ranges are not confined to the Middle East — they occur in the Western Pacific as well, near the densest cluster of U.S. overseas military installations in the world.
