Summary

A USINDOPACOM mission report documenting a UAP observation by U.S. military assets during operations in the East China Sea in 2024. Released as DOW-UAP-D28 via PURSUE Release 1 on May 8, 2026. DOW-UAP-D28 is the only Western Pacific theater DOW mission report in the PURSUE corpus not previously represented in DECUR, introducing the East China Sea as a documented UAP encounter location within INDOPACOM. The East China Sea is one of the most militarily contested bodies of water in the world, with continuous U.S., Chinese, Japanese, and Taiwanese military operations.

Significance

DOW-UAP-D28 extends the PURSUE military UAP mission report record from the CENTCOM theater (Syria, Iraq, UAE, Iran) into the INDOPACOM Western Pacific theater. The East China Sea location — amid heightened U.S.-China military tensions in 2024 — makes this report geopolitically significant as a data point in the most contested maritime theater of the current era.
