Summary
Personal correspondence to and from Dr. James Leslie Tuck, a Los Alamos National Laboratory-affiliated physicist, regarding UAP phenomena circa 1970s. A key letter (ca. November 23, 1970) addressed to Tuck from a LANL contact describes firsthand observation of green lights at Los Alamos from 1948 through 1961 — weaving in and out of the Jemez Mountains during the early evening, and one instance of five objects flying in formation from southeast to northwest over Los Alamos. The correspondent confirms these sightings were reported to LANL Protective Force Headquarters and should be on record in their logs.
Significance
DOE-UAP-D002 provides the first documented evidence that Los Alamos National Laboratory maintained institutional records of UAP sightings through AEC/DOE channels. The letter describes sustained green light observations from 1948 to 1961 — covering the full span of the New Mexico Green Fireball phenomenon and beyond — and a formation sighting of five objects, both of which were officially filed with LANL security. The fact that these reports were filed with Protective Force HQ implies a separate institutional UAP record at LANL that has not yet been released.
