Betty and Barney Hill, a married couple returning from a Canadian vacation, encountered a bright object that followed their vehicle through the White Mountains of New Hampshire. They experienced approximately two hours of unexplained missing time and arrived home significantly later than expected. Subsequent psychiatric hypnosis sessions conducted by Dr. Benjamin Simon revealed consistent narratives of being taken aboard a craft by non-human beings. The Hills provided separate but convergent accounts under hypnosis, neither aware of the other's testimony during the sessions. Betty Hill's recalled star map was later matched by amateur astronomer Marjorie Fish to the Zeta Reticuli binary star system. The case remains the first widely documented and publicly investigated CE4 (close encounter of the fourth kind) in the United States.
